November and December are always big months for movie releases, and this week’s cover story highlights Wicked, the season’s first kid-friendly release that is expected to be a blockbuster (p20). You may already know that the film is based on the hit musical of the same title, which opened on Broadway in 2003, and that some of the show’s characters are from the 1939 movie The Wizard of Oz. But did you know that both stories began as novels? Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West, by Gregory Maguire, was published in 1995, and The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, by L.
