What inspired this book? Ruta: I was intrigued by how the people who worked at Bletchley Park in the UK during World War II had to be so secretive about the codebreaking they were doing to defeat the Nazis. Did you love history when you were a child? Steve: Yes, I was given a metal detector as a gift when I was young. I used it to look for treasure, which was my way of connecting with history. Where would you go if you could time travel? Ruta: I would travel to the 1940s, when my dad and my grandparents came to the US as refugees from Lithuania.
