Earth has temporarily gained what some people are calling a “second moon,” which is expected to stay in our planet’s orbit for about two months. A moon is defined as an object that orbits a planet. In this case, Earth’s new moon is an asteroid (small, rocky object that flies around the Sun) called 2024 PT5. Compared with Earth’s main Moon, which is 2,159.2 miles across, 2024 PT5 is about 33 feet wide. It is too small and dim to be spotted with the human eye but may be visible through a professional telescope.
