Guadalupe Mountains National Park, Texas

The Guadalupe Mountains rise more than 3,000 feet from the Chihuahuan desert. Guadalupe Peak, the tallest natural point in Texas, reaches 8,751 feet and has a 1,000-foot limestone cliff named El Capitan. The park also contains an incredibly well-preserved fossil of an ancient marine reef. In spite of the desert landscape, woodlands can be found in the park, which is also home to thousands of plants, including wildflowers, ferns, yuccas, oak and pine trees, and traditional desert features like cacti. Mule deer, mountain lions, and rattlesnakes also live here.…
