Trial of former President begins

The first criminal trial of a former President in US history is underway in a New York City courtroom. Donald Trump, who served from 2017 to 2021, is facing 34 counts of falsifying business records during the 2016 Presidential campaign. The case will be decided by a jury of seven men and five women who were chosen at the start of the trial. They are first hearing arguments from the prosecutors (lawyers for New York, led by District Attorney Alvin Bragg), who say Trump falsified the records to keep information secret that he did not want the public to know about during the 2016 campaign.
