Star skier wins 100th World Cup race

On February 23, US skier Mikaela Shiffrin reached a historic milestone during an event in Sestriere, Italy. She won the women’s slalom event, which was her 100th Alpine Skiing World Cup victory. She already holds the record for being the alpine (downhill) skier with the most World Cup wins, male or female. By finishing in the top three, she also made a World Cup podium for the 155th time, which puts her in a tie with legendary Swedish skier Ingemar Stenmark for the most World Cup top-three finishes by a male or female. Shiffrin, age 29, began racing in World Cups in 2011, a day before she turned 16.
