Every year, researchers discover thousands of new species. A new species could be one that scientists had not yet recorded, had incorrectly identified in the past, or have encountered for the first time. In the five years since The Week Junior’s launch, experts have documented a wide variety of species that were previously unknown to science. The year 2020 was an exciting one for primatologists (scientists who study primates). They identified a new type of monkey, called the Popa langur, as well as the 25th member of a group of little lemurs. Jonah’s mouse lemur lives in northeast Madagascar and is about the size of a person’s fist, with a white stripe between its big eyes.
