United Kingdom Supermarkets to reduce food waste Tesco, the largest supermarket chain in the UK, has announced that some of its 3,700 stores will start giving away expiring food to customers at the end of the day. The plan is part of an effort by the company to cut the amount of food it wastes in half. Groceries that are about to expire will first be offered to charities and store workers. Then customers will be allowed to take remaining items for free.
