On the Australian island state of Tasmania lies an extremely rare temperate rainforest known as Takayna or the Tarkine. These forests feature dense tree canopies in cool, rainy climates. The area, which covers about 1,841 square miles, also has mountain ranges, rivers, grasslands, and coastlines. Visitors can see animals including Tasmanian devils, azure kingfishers, giant crayfish, platypuses, and penguins.
