France Government bans short flights The French government enacted a ban on short domestic (within the country) flights. The law prohibits airline travel if it can be substituted with a train ride of 2.5 hours or less. The government hopes the ban will help cut greenhouse gas emissions (gases that remain in Earth’s atmosphere and trap heat, causing the planet to warm up). However, many feel there are too many exceptions to the ban to make any real environmental impact.
