Minnesota are first PWHL champs

The PWHL (Professional Women’s Hockey League), which kicked off its inaugural season in January, now has its first champion. In the deciding fifth game of the finals on May 29, which was played at the Tsongas Center in Lowell, Massachusetts, Minnesota beat Boston, 3–0, to claim the Walter Cup. The playoffs began with the top four of the PWHL’s six teams. Boston finished the regular season in third, while Minnesota was fourth. In the semifinals, Minnesota knocked out Toronto, the top team, while Boston eliminated the number two team, Montreal. In the finals, Boston kicked things off with a thrilling 4–3 win.
