Orangutan seen using natural medicine

A Sumatran orangutan in Indonesia has stunned wildlife experts by treating a wound on his face with a medicinal plant. Scientists believe this could be a first for any wild animal. Rakus is an adult male orangutan living at the Suaq Balimbing research station inside Gunung Leuser National Park. One day, after he was injured with a deep cut under his right eye, researchers saw him chewing the leaves of a plant called akar kuning, which is known to have healing properties.
