Conservationists received good news recently when a big research study found that wildlife protection programs really are effective. Currently, more than 44,000 species are considered to be at risk of extinction. Threats to these species include habitat loss and changes in weather patterns, such as rising temperatures, and many of them are endangered due to human activities. Conservation projects try to boost the species’ populations and help them thrive. For the new study, a team of international researchers looked at 665 conservation efforts between 1890 and 2019. The projects took place around the world and focused on many different species.
