Largest offshore wind farm is approved

The US government has approved the creation of the nation’s largest offshore wind farm. The Ocean Wind 1 project will be built off the coast of New Jersey and aims to generate enough power to provide electricity for up to 500,000 homes. What are wind farms? A wind farm, also called a wind park, contains a group of turbines, which look like giant fans. When wind blows, the turbine’s long blades begin to turn, which spins a generator and creates electricity. Humans have been using wind energy for thousands of years, and the first US wind turbine created to produce electricity was built in 1888.
