US rejoins global organization

The US will rejoin an international organization dedicated to promoting peace through global cooperation. The United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has 193 member states. The US was a founding member of UNESCO in 1945 but withdrew in 2017 when former President Donald Trump disagreed with some of the organization’s decisions. UNESCO’s mission includes ensuring access to education worldwide, using science to protect the planet and help people, and fighting for gender equality. One of UNESCO’s most well-known initiatives is preserving important heritage sites around the world that have “outstanding universal value to humanity.” By rejoining UNESCO, the US will have a voice in these and other global issues.
