Multivitamins could help coral
Just as some people take multivitamin tablets for their health, new research points to the possibility of using vitamins to help coral stay healthy. A team of scientists found that some ingredients in multivitamins can support the immune system of growing coral, which could help it withstand climate change. Coral reefs are made up of many individual corals called polyps. These tiny sea creatures eventually develop a hard skeleton of limestone rock on the outside of their bodies and become permanently located in one place. Coral polyps can be found in many different parts of the ocean, but they develop into reefs (big structures) only in shallow, warm water.
