When I read about the baby chimpanzee born recently at the Chester Zoo in the UK, I knew we had to put him on our cover. Isn’t he adorable? Not only that, but he’s also providing hope for the Western chimpanzee subspecies. About 80% of their population has been lost in the past 25 years—due to hunting, forest destruction, and other causes—and now there are thought to be as few as 18,000 living in the wild. The baby’s mother (also shown on the cover) is named ZeeZee, and he will be named after a famous musician, as was his sister Stevie (for Steve Nicks, a singer in the famous rock band Fleetwood Mac).
