Sinks Canyon State Park, Wyoming

Sinks Canyon State Park in Wyoming is known for a peculiar phenomenon. The Popo Agie River disappears at a point called the “Sinks” and re-emerges at another spot called the “Rise.” Experts believe the water travels through tiny underground passages for over two hours to make the quarter-mile journey. Sinks Canyon, at the base of the Southern Wind River Mountains, has rock layers that date back millions of years. Many birds call it home, including turkey vultures and Cassin’s finches.
