Jeanne Gang’s latest building seeks to draw people closer to nature.

Architect Jeanne Gang is known around the world for her approach to design, which seeks to bring people closer to nature and one another. Now, with her firm, Studio Gang, she has applied that approach to a new expansion for the famous American Museum of Natural History (AMNH) in New York City. Growing up in Illinois, Gang loved the outdoors. “I was always the kid making the tree house or fort,” she once told The Wall Street Journal. That love later shifted to art and engineering, which led to a degree in architecture from the University of Illinois and a master’s degree from Harvard University.
