New award honors author Judy Blume

Award-winning author Judy Blume, age 85, has been selected to receive a lifetime achievement award as part of the Eleanor Roosevelt Award for Bravery in Literature, which is being given out for the first time in 2024. The prize, named for the longest-serving first lady in US history, celebrates intellectual freedom and honors literature and authors that work to advance human rights. Blume has published 29 books for children and adults, including the middle-grade novels Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing, Blubber, and Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret. Many of her books tackle sensitive topics, like puberty and religion, leading some critics to label them as inappropriate.
