Technology that lets everyone play

An engineering student in Australia is using sound to help people who are blind or have low vision play Ping-Pong. Phoebe Peng attached cameras and speakers to the sides of a traditional Ping-Pong table. As the cameras track the ball’s movement, a computer program converts that information into sound that’s played through the speakers. People with low or no vision can use the sound to estimate the ball’s location. Peng hopes to improve the technology so players can identify the ball’s position more accurately.…
