New ways to fight mosquitoes

A new study found that adding liquid soap to some insecticides (chemicals that kill pests) makes them more effective against mosquitoes. The findings are important because mosquitoes, which carry malaria, are becoming resistant to some insecticides. Malaria is a disease that kills more than 600,000 people globally every year, according to the World Health Organization. Researchers tested three inexpensive, common liquid soaps. When they added them to a type of insecticide called a neonicotinoid, the formulas were 30% to 100% more effective at killing mosquitoes.
