Artemis mission to the Moon is delayed

NASA, the US space agency, announced on January 9 that it will postpone the second and third phases of its Artemis program, an ambitious plan to put astronauts on the Moon for the first time since 1972. What is Artemis? The NASA program involves three primary stages. On the Artemis I mission, which took place in 2022, a spacecraft without a crew flew 1.4 million miles around the Moon and back. The flight was a successful test of NASA’s new Space Launch System (SLS) and the Orion space capsule, which astronauts will eventually travel in to and from the Moon. Orion safely reentered Earth’s atmosphere and landed in the ocean. Artemis II, originally scheduled for 2024, will carry a crew of four astronauts around the Moon and back to Earth.…
