All of us at The Week Junior were a bit sad to hear that Ingenuity, the NASA helicopter that landed on Mars in 2021, has taken its last flight (p4). Bill Nelson, the head of NASA, called Ingenuity “the little helicopter that could,” and it’s easy to see why. It was originally scheduled to conduct five test flights over 30 days and wound up completing 72 missions in nearly three years, proving without a doubt that a helicopter could fly in a very thin atmosphere. Ingenuity also served as a trusty companion to Perseverance, the NASA rover that wheels around on Mars gathering rocks and looking for signs of ancient life.
