More magical snow worlds

Sapporo is one of many cities where people gather in the cold to build and experience stunning, snowy monuments to the winter season.

Quebec Winter Carnival Held in Quebec City in Canada, this wintertime event officially began in 1955, although its roots go back to 1894. Snow and ice sculptures are displayed at the festival (left), and an ice palace is built for the event’s mascot—a snowman named Bonhomme who wears a red cap and sash. Harbin Ice Festival This snow and ice festival in China typically opens in December and can run through early March. The largest snow sculpture in the world was made here in 2007. Called “Romantic Feelings” (left), it stood about 115 feet tall and 656 feet long and was built by 600 people. World Snow Sculpting Championship Since 2022, people from around the globe have traveled to Stillwater, Minnesota, to compete for the title of snow sculpting champion.…
