Wind Cave National Park, South Dakota

Established in 1903, Wind Cave National Park was the first cave in the US to become a national park. Located in southwest South Dakota, the area contains nearly 34,000 acres of prairies and forests and is home to wildlife including bison, pronghorn, and prairie dogs. The cave, which is one of the longest and most complex caves in the world, has only one natural entrance. Visitors can take a guided tour of its depths and view elaborate boxwork formations, which are honeycomb patterns formed by minerals extending out from the cave walls. Learn more at nps.gov/wica.…
