Top prizes in children’s books

On January 22, the American Library Association (ALA) Youth Media Awards were given out for the best books and digital media published for children and young adults in 2023. In all, 22 awards were announced by the ALA, the world’s oldest and largest library organization. All the winners were chosen by librarians. Which books won awards? The John Newbery Medal for best children’s book went to The Eyes and the Impossible, written by Dave Eggers and illustrated by Shawn Harris. The Randolph Caldecott Medal for top picture book went to Big, written and illustrated by Vashti Harrison, the first Black woman to win the award.
