As luck would have it, Lyla’s seventh-grade English teacher gives a creative writing assignment to the class. Lyla writes down the first sentence but decides she doesn’t like it. Day after day, she either doesn’t write anything or crosses out her words with her blue gel pen. Lyla grows frustrated because she wants to enter the story in a writing contest and doesn’t understand why the words aren’t coming to her.
