WOMEN’S COLLEGE BASKETBALL In a big game on February 11, the number-one-ranked University of South Carolina beat the 11th-ranked University of Connecticut, 83–65. Te-Hina Paopao scored 21 points for South Carolina, the only remaining undefeated team in men’s or women’s NCAA basketball. The same day, the unranked University of Nebraska upset number-two-ranked University of Iowa, 82–79. INTERNATIONAL SOCCER Ivory Coast beat Nigeria, 2–1, to win the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) on February 11. Sébastien Haller scored the winning goal in the 81st minute. This is Ivory Coast’s third AFCON title. SWIMMING Summer McIntosh, age 17 of Canada, beat US star Katie Ledecky in the 800-meter freestyle at the Southern Zone South Sectional Championships on February 8. She is the first person to defeat Ledecky in the 800 since 2010.…
