Plant-filled airport terminal opens
A new airport terminal in the city of Bengaluru, in the state of Karnataka, India, has lush indoor gardens powered by renewable resources. The T2 terminal is at the Kempegowda International Airport. It’s spread across 2.75 million square feet and was inspired by Bengaluru’s reputation as the “garden city” of India. Designed to connect travelers to nature, the terminal uses solar energy to power some sections and rainwater for the plants. The space has hanging gardens at check-in areas, a 295-foot-wide “forest belt” on the way to the departure gates, indoor waterfalls near shops and restaurants, and more. Travelers can also walk through covered and open-air bridges. The terminal was built using locally sourced materials, including bamboo, ivory brown granite, umber red bricks, and rattan.…
