Concerns rise over bird flu

New types of bird flu, a virus that has affected animals around the world, have been found in ducks and cows in the US for the first time. The discovery raised concerns about a wider outbreak. What is bird flu? Bird flu spreads mostly through birds like chickens, ducks, and turkeys and is transmitted through animal droppings or saliva. A version of the virus, known as H5N1, first appeared in the US in January 2022. Since then, it has affected more than 153 million birds in the wild, at commercial farms, at zoos, and in people’s backyards.
