White House plan for student achievement

On January 17, President Joe Biden’s administration announced a plan, called the Improving Student Achievement Agenda, to increase learning in schools, starting this year. The program’s goal is to help state education officials address declines in attendance and test scores. What is the plan? The Department of Education (DOE) said the plan includes three parts. One is to increase student attendance, which began dropping during the pandemic and hasn’t recovered. The second is to provide tutoring for students who are behind in coursework. The third is to increase after-school and summer learning opportunities. Each part aims to give students more time and support to succeed, said Education Secretary Miguel Cardona.
