US athletes win big at Youth Olympics

The Winter Youth Olympic Games (YOG) ended on February 1 in Gangwon Province, South Korea. Athletes from more than 200 countries competed, with more than 270,000 spectators watching. The US capped the Games with a gold medal for the men’s ice hockey team. On the final night, a closing ceremony was held in Gangneung Olympic Park. What happened? The Winter YOG began on January 19 and ran for two weeks. About 1,800 young people competed in 15 disciplines across seven sports: skiing, snowboarding, figure skating, speed skating, ice hockey, luge, and ski jumping.
