Holocaust Remembrance Day is marked

On January 27, the world observed Holocaust Remembrance Day. People attended ceremonies, laid flowers on monuments, and listened to speeches and recollections delivered by survivors and world leaders. What is the Holocaust? The Holocaust was the mass killing of 6 million Jewish men, women, and children, as well as millions of others, by the German Nazi party, led by Adolf Hitler. It is one of the most terrible events in human history. Starting in the late 1930s and throughout World War II (1939–1945), the Nazis stormed across Europe, taking over countries and forcing Jewish people to live in ghettos (neighborhoods surrounded by walls, barbed wire, or fences).
