Supersonic jet hits high speed
A jet designed to move faster than the speed of sound set a record with its latest flight. The jet, called XB-1, hit 629 miles per hour. This is a major step toward supersonic speed, which is at least 761 miles per hour. The XB-1 was built by American aviation company Boom Supersonic as a test vehicle for its broader supersonic program. Boom plans to use XB-1’s technology to build a supersonic passenger jet it hopes to launch in 2029. Called Overture, it will carry up to 80 passengers and fly twice the speed of current jets.
