Ancient city found under Mexico jungle

A team of researchers has discovered evidence of an ancient lost city in Mexico, hidden in a dense jungle. They named the city Valeriana. The scientists made the discovery while analyzing data collected using light detection and ranging (LiDAR) technology. LiDAR fires laser pulses at the ground from a plane, then measures how long it takes for the laser to bounce back. The time varies based on what objects the laser hits. The data lets scientists “see” and create a 3D map. The LiDAR data revealed that under the thick tree cover of the jungle in Campeche, Mexico, there was once a Maya city.
