Anna Pavlova This Russian star became the first ballerina to tour the world, starting in 1914. One of her bestknown roles, performed thousands of times, was in a short ballet showing the end of a swan’s life. Rudolf Nureyev After leaving Russia in 1961, Nureyev formed a famous partnership with Margot Fonteyn, who danced in the UK’s Royal Ballet. Nureyev broke barriers for male dancers with his expressive style. Raven Wilkinson Born in New York City, Wilkinson was one of the first Black ballerinas to dance with a major ballet company.
