Skater makes history

Starr Andrews, 21, became the first Black US figure skater to take home a Grand Prix medal on October 29 at the Skate Canada International tournament in Ontario. Andrews first gained national attention at age 9, when a video of her skating to the song “Whip My Hair” by Willow Smith drew millions of views. Her performance in Canada, which included six triple jumps, earned her the silver medal. In a social media post after her win, she called it “a dream come true.” She now has her sights set on the 2026 Winter Olympics.…
