Supreme Court issues ethics code

The US Supreme Court (America’s most powerful court of law) announced that it has voluntarily created and adopted an official code of conduct. The announcement came after news reports published earlier this year said some justices may have taken part in unethical behavior. What happened? An ethics code is a set of principles designed to help employees do their jobs with honesty and integrity. Judges in lower courts follow ethics rules, but the Supreme court didn’t have rules of its own. The new 14-page code of conduct, based on the rules lower court judges follow, states that the justices must not allow “family, social, political, financial, or other relationships” to influence their decisions.
