Taking pictures on the Moon

Astronauts on Earth are testing a new camera that could one day be used on the Moon. NASA’s Artemis project aims to put humans back on the Moon by 2025, for the first time since 1972. To capture that mission in photographs, the Artemis imagery team, along with the European Space Agency and others, is developing the Handheld Universal Lunar Camera (HULC). Test crews have traveled to landscapes that resemble the Moon, including a rocky region of Spain and dark, volcanic caves. The HULC is a commercially available camera that is being modified to withstand extreme conditions on the Moon, including brutally cold temperatures and lunar dust that could scratch lenses.…
