Timucuan Ecological & Historic Preserve, Florida

Timucuan has one of the last unspoiled wetlands on the Atlantic Coast of the US. Along with marshes, the nature preserve includes sand dunes, oak forests, and pine flatwoods (grasslands filled with pine trees). A variety of animals, including manatees and armadillos, live in the preserve. Visitors can also view artifacts dating back 6,000 years and learn about the cultures of the Indigenous peoples (first known inhabitants) of the area. Hikers, cyclists, and kayakers can make their way through several national, state, and city parks connected by the Timucuan Trail.…
