Flamingo friends have traits in common

Flamingos in flocks tend to spend time with other flamingos who have similar personalities, according to a new study from the University of Exeter, in England, and the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust. The study looked at two separate flocks of Caribbean and Chilean flamingos. Previous research has shown that flamingos form friendships—in pairs or in groups of three or four friends—that can last for years. In the new study, researchers evaluated flamingos based on personality traits, such as how aggressive (forceful) or submissive (obedient) they were and how willing they were to explore. They found that birds with similar personality traits spent more time with one another.
