April 3, 1860 The Pony Express is established On April 3, 1860, the Pony Express, a mail delivery system involving riders on horses, was created. The 1,800-mile route began in St. Joseph, Missouri, and ended in Sacramento, California. A new horse was provided every 10 to 15 miles, and riders would take breaks after traveling 75 miles. The business ended when the transcontinental telegraph, a faster way of communicating, was invented in 1861.…
