Land returned to Yurok Tribe in California

On March 19, officials in California signed an agreement that will return land to the Yurok Tribe. The Yurok, the state’s largest tribe with more than 5,000 members, had 90% of its territory stolen during the 1800s. What happened? The tribe signed the historic agreement with the National Park Service, California State Parks, and Save the Redwoods League. The four groups will co-manage the land. The tribe will take ownership of 125 acres that will serve as a gateway to the region’s famous redwoods. They are the world’s tallest trees, with some growing to a height of more than 350 feet.
