8 September 1429 Joan of Arc attacks Paris 595 years ago, 17-year-old Joan of Arc led an attack on Paris to try to capture the city from an English-led army. Joan was born into a French farming family during the Hundred Years’ War – a series of battles between England and France from 1337 to 1453.
