The Big River Watch

The Big River Watch began in 2023 and it’s a twice-yearly event. Around 9,000 people took part in the first two. At the most recent Big River Watch, in May 2024, around 2,500 people spent time observing rivers in the UK and Ireland. Ducks were the most commonly spotted animal, although some people were lucky enough to glimpse more unusual creatures, such as beavers, kingfishers or otters. The most commonly seen type of pollution was silt, which is very fine, muddy material made up of lots of tiny fragments or particles.…
