Flying spaghetti monsters spotted

An underwater mountain nearly two miles tall has been found in the Pacific Ocean, 900 miles off the coast of Chile, along with some rare sea creatures. The “seamount” was found by oceanographers (people who study marine plants and animals) exploring an underwater mountain range called Nazca Ridge. A robot filmed the mountain’s ridges and revealed creatures, including a Promachoteuthis squid – filmed for the first time – and two Bathyphysa siphonophores, also known as “flying spaghetti monsters” because of their wavy tendrils. The 28-day expedition was led by the Schmidt Ocean Institute, an organisation that studies sea life. It mapped and explored nine areas of the underwater mountain range.
