Are home robots a good idea?

Some people say they make our lives better but others disagree.

The robots are here. They are making pizzas in Paris, France; painting self-portraits for exhibitions in London; keeping elderly people company in Japan; and performing rock music at concerts in Germany. Increasingly, they are becoming more common in people’s homes too. Amazon’s new robot, Astro, is the latest on the market. The makers say it can help people feel safer, perform tasks such as carrying drinks, and entertain people by playing music. It is even programmed with movements and expressions to give it personality. There are other robots that do chores, such as cleaning our homes. Some people say robots are great but others worry they could have a negative impact on our lives. What do you think? Are home robots a good idea? Yes – they make everything easier…
