Airport tests vertical parking
A London airport is testing an experimental new way for drivers to park their cars when they go on holiday. The Office for National Statistics says UK residents made 86.2 million trips abroad in 2023. With more and more people using airports, the car parks often fill up, leaving travellers stuck for a place to leave their car. London City Airport is working with car makers to develop a system of vertical parking using the walls of car parks to create hundreds more parking spaces. Cars are lifted into position using robotic cranes and secured with wheel clamps and metal stands.
