Mountains that top the charts

Everest is the tallest, but its neighbours are also impressive. Nine of the 10 highest peaks in the world are in the Himalayas – the exception is K2 (the second highest) in the Karakoram mountain range between China and Pakistan. Ben Nevis in Scotland is the UK’s highest peak, at 1,345 metres. Russia’s Mount Elbrus (Europe’s highest) is 5,642 metres.
